Learning to love the Jews: the impact of the War on Terror on the Counter-jihad blogosphere on European far right parties

"This paper will use the term counter-jihad to describe to a particular right wing discourse that sees Islam as a threat to the west and Europe. This is more than saying that terrorism committed in the name of Islam is a threat, because it construes non-violent phenomenon such as Islamist political movements, both within Europe and beyond and, importantly, simply the presence in Europe of Muslims as immigrants or descendants of immigrants as existential threats"

Countering the counter-jihad
By Toby Archer

A far-right, anti-Islamic ideology that accuses Europe of wilfully subjugating its power to Muslim extremists is being taken increasingly seriously in certain political circles.

Counter-jihad discourse mixes valid concerns about jihad-inspired terrorism with far more complex political issues about immigration to Europe from predominantly Muslim countries.

It suggests that there is a threat not just from terrorism carried out by Islamic extremists but from Islam itself. Therefore, by extension, all European Muslims are a threat.
